AMTAS provides opportunities to serve people with special needs in the community and fosters a supportive social network for members. AMTAS provides enriched experiences for music therapy majors such as offering financial support for professional activities and providing workshops where professionals speak. Support for its many activities is obtained through membership dues and fundraisers.
The organization also encourages community volunteerism and has adopted the following service projects: March of Dimes Ben’s Team annual carnival and walk, ATCO (Athen's County Sheltered Workshop for Adults with Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities) annual Disability Festival and Valentine’s Day dance, Goodworks dinners, performances at various facilities such as Lindley Inn and O’Bleness Hospital.
